The Largest Tonnage of Port and Waterway Engineering Pile Load Test Using Kentledge Method has been Successfully Carried Out by CCCC 4th Harbor Institute

The largest tonnage of port and waterway engineering pile load test using kentledge method has been successfully carried out at Walvis Bay New Container Terminal in Namibia by CCCC 4th Harbor Institute in February 2nd. The reaction force provided by the kentledge exceeds 2500 tons as the maximum test load comes to 2280 tons. The test renews the record of pile load test using kentledge in the industry of port and waterway engineering.

This large tonnage static load test was the first time to be carried out in the thick diatomite soil in accordance with the internationally accepted British Standards (ICE SPERW,CIRIA R,BS) in the world. It has characteristics of strict requirements on ground settlement, high requirements on data acquisition system, with many ancillary testing items such as side friction testing, and high coefficient of comprehensive difficulty.

CCCC 4th Harbor Institute ensured the success of the test by investing millions of RMB for the equipment processing and scheme designing for large tonnage pile load test, foundation design for supporting piles and settlement checking.The results of the test will provide direct data support for engineering design and construction technology selection. The relevant results will also provide support for the code of “Technical code for testing of port and waterway engineering foundation piles” which was edited mainly by FHEI.
