National Key Technology R&D Program Finished by the CCCC 4th Harbor Institute was Assessed as International Leading Level

The acceptance and appraisal meeting of “Guarantee key technology of the 120 years service life of the sea-crossed clustered project concrete structures” finished by CCCC 4th Harbor Institute was held at Beijing on June 12.The project is the fourth branch program of the National Key Technology R&D Program “Construction key technology research and demonstration of the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge sea-crossed clustered project”. The program was accepted successfully by Ministry of Transport of China. The achievements were assessed as international leading level.

The acceptance and appraisal expert group was comprised by 13 experts consist of Academician Sun Jun, Academician Chen Zhaoyuan, Academician Miao Changwen et al. After challenge and discussion, the expert group came to an agreement as follow. The program research developed concrete structure durability design theory and method. A packaged technology for concrete structure durability design, construction and maintenance of sea-crossed clustered project was obtained. Durability monitoring and detection equipments with analysis software with independent intellectual property right were developed. Relative guides and regulations were established. The above research results were applied in the construction of projects such as the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which promoted the development of concrete structure durability technology significantly. The economic and social benefits were obvious.

The program is leaded by CCCC 4th Harbor Institute, while the participants include Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority, Tsinghua University, CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. and Tongji University. The research team focused on the 120 years service life of the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and carried out a systematic research on design, construction and maintenance of concrete structure durability of sea-crossed clustered project during the past 5 years. In order to get a reliable design for durability, the reliability theory was applied, followed by the establishment of a durability design model based on the failure probability using the similar environment exposure experiments data. The indexes of concrete structure and material, which can fulfill the aim of 120 years service life, were obtained. A systematic design method for the anticorrosion measures was established additionally. The durability design technology for marine concrete structures of our country is developed and innovated by this work. A submerged concrete durability monitoring system and a fast recognition equipment for leak disease of immersed tunnel were developed to improve the durability monitoring and detection technology and fill in the technical gap of our country. A durability guarantee technology system composed of durability design, construction and maintenance was established. As a result, the problem of how to achieve the 120 years designed service life of the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was resolved perfectly. The achievements were highly evaluated by international experts and parts of which were applied successfully in similar projects already. In addition, the achievements about durability design and immersed tunnel crack control were taken into the national and industry standards, which were prepared by the participants of this program. The standards may play an important role in promoting industry technology development and improving the durability technology for marine concrete structures of China.

At present, the research achievements are successfully applied in the construction of the Hongkong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which promote the improvement of durability guarantee technology of the project significantly.
